In the midst of a worldwide effort, Peter Mac is in a powerful position to help in the war on cancer. Peter Mac is one of a handful of comprehensive cancer centres outside the United States and our facility in East Melbourne houses the largest dedicated cancer research group in Australia, with over 400 researchers, support staff and students. Our work ranges from laboratory-based studies into the fundamental mechanisms of cell growth, translational studies that seek more accurate cancer diagnosis and to improve treatment outcomes, clinical trials with novel treatments, through to research aimed at improving our supportive care of patients. Peter Mac offers many opportunities to students and teachers to see and experience our fabulous world of science, and we welcome your enquiries at any time. Educational Activities:
School “Bringing Science To Life” program with hands-on activities in the research laboratories VCE Biology Lecture Series for students and teachers Staff who will visit your school to present a careers talk Staff or students who will attend a career information session organized by your school Have specific open days for students and their parents to attend Host work experience students for Years 10, 11 and 12 Staff or students who will attend primary schools as part of the “science in schools’ project Formal placements for TAFE and tertiary students completing science related courses
